My Popularity Rating

MY POPULARITY RATING IS DIVING OFF THE CHART!

How do you like that?

I joined SearchWarp on August 21, 2008 and I was immideately assigned a popularity rating of 138. Not bad I guess, being a new member, but here I am exactly ten days later and I be darned.

I have dropped exactly 113 point down to 25.

Bewildered I am scratching my head, and feverishly I am looking around and reaching for anything to hold on too before I slide down and fall of the chart.

HELP! I scream at the top of my lungs.

Granny? What have I done wrong?

I am trying to be nice. I am stil smiling, shaking hands and bowing my head like I learned in the old country, but it is of no use. I am failing.

Looking around I see other members climbing up, up and away. Many of you are going through the roof, and some of you are climbing, passing the Eiffel Tower way up in the sky.

But here I am on this magic ladder of yours and I can't even get my foot back on the first wrung again.

So here I am, the sweat pouring of me, trying ever so hard to regain my composure, but it is not looking very promising.

So should it be that yours truly should slip into the minus column, please forgive me. You will just have to wait while I pick myself up and do like my friend Granny told me: Rise and shine!

Dear Olof,

I too have been discouraged over the popularity rating here at SW. I personally love your writing and hope to see more. I have watched my rating both soar and do the freefall. If I wasn't in the middle of recording a song and working, I would probably looking for something to write. However, I am also tired of seeing the same people and same subjects always on the frontpage. No offense intended to the ones who are there as they don't pick themselves. I finally came to realize that since I personally answer to God and God alone, I need to work on how I let the ratings here bother me. If I continue to go down on my rating, it is okay just for today. God bless you my friend. Big smiles!

Hi Olaf,

I have only been here for a short time, and my rating rises and falls daily. Keep on writing, write about anything that you are passionate about, and don't worry about your rating. You will be just fine. Hang in there!

Olof. My Newest and Dearest Friend. I feel I have known you for milleniums.

You have insenuated yourself into my heart that deeply. Let no one keep you from baring your heart and soul and mind. You have much to say and it always, always comes straight from your heart. If I alone could rate you to one million you would have been there the first day. Please, don't give up. I have worked so hard to get my own ratings up, but like you, I can go just so high and get frustrated that I can't do better. I give my writing my all, but it still just isn't quite enough. But to lose faith--I say, NEVER!

You write beautifully. Tell us more about the little boy from Norway--through his hopes and dreams, he will win all our love.

Dont' get discouraged, Mr. Eriksen. All of our ratings go up and down. It takes time for beginners. You definitely don't sound like a quitter. Don't quit now.

Hi Olaf, Please don't dispair. I hope to send you a private message with some suggestions on how to get your rating up. One way, is that everybody here has given you a rating of 5 on this article. We love you here at SearchWarp.

MARK PARSEC,

You ever play with a Jo-Jo?
In the old country I did, and I was quite good at it. These days however, whoever they are, like to set up charts to show trends, - of this Jo-Jo.
I really did not think of quitting, that was in just in jest, but I sure caused a rumble. Anyway, this Jo-Jo vent down to 26, and then it scraped the floor at 18. Then the string got a hold of it, gravity took over and it climbed back up past 138, continued to 171 and now holding at 163.
Want to play with my Jo-Jo? But be careful. The string is worn.
Thank you for your comment, and thank you for joining my fan club, and I did likewise. I joined yours.
Be well and best regards,
Olof

Ratings are not so much about the writer but more about what "surfers" are looking for on the internet. If you look at some of the most popular articles--immigration, white-tongue, and popular itune downloads--you'll see it's really about what people are looking for. You could just go to a search engine, find what people are looking for, write articles and move up in the rankings quickly. Or you could stay true to your purpose and pound away maybe never hitting the big time (as in big ratings). It all depends on your focus / purpose. But don't worry. If you write well, from the heart and seek to "connect" people will find you. Your great humanity and compassion will shine through enough to boost your ratings. But think about boosting those hearts first and the ratings second. The rating will come. Maybe not huge ratings, but if you write it they will come. God bless.

Jeff Brown,

When I see something written from the heart, it always shows through and leaves a halo, just like yours just did.

God Bless your pee-picking heart.

Olof
